West Dean Heritage Site Open Days / Beachy Head Meeting
–
Sat 10th Sep 2016
Following the great success of the SARS involvement last year with the West Dean Open Days. English Heritage regarded our combined involvement as an important event.
Our intentions were to focus on the Canadian Quebquois occupation of West Dean during WWII and prior to "D Day" And display examples of the radio equipment from this period, combined with working demonstrations..We have secured the Special Event Callsign GB2WD.
There are many stalls with local crafts and produce in the Nags Barn. Refreshments are readily available, together with the Harvey's Brewery Van confirmed as being on site both days.
Both John Craig and John Elgar will be displaying many fine examples of WWII radio equipment from their extensive collections.
On Saturday we may also use GB2WD for Churches On The Air. The village Church of St Marys Church being very close to our main station. This is just an added interest and will only operate when GB2WD is not being used for vintage radio demonstrations etc.
THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WITH ENTRY TO THE GROUNDS AND ANCIENT DOVECOTE BEING FREE OF CHARGE. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ENGLISH HISTORY, ANCIENT BUILDINGS OR ARCHIOLOGY, THE WEST DEAN OPEN DAYS ARE WELL WORTH A VISIT. FOR ANYONE WITH AN INTEREST IN WWII RADIO EQUIPMENT THIS IS AN EVENT NOT TO BE MISSED!
SARS members should go to the FORUM and look for the WEST DEAN pages under the EVENTS CONTESTS and COMPETIONS heading for further information.
