SARS members will again be displaying vintage radio equipment at this iconic location.

This is an English Heritage open weekend for these historic buildings set in a beautiful location at the small village of West Dean. The site which has been occupied since Roman times also has an important connection with WWII. Canadian troupes used West Dean as a base prior to the invasion of France establishing a radio station in the Old Coach House.

We will have a display of radio equipment used in WWII including a fully working Canadian Wireless Sets No.19 Mk.III and other sets typical of the period. There will also be a Land Rover Series One from 1949 with Larkspur SR C12 and Defender 110 FFR with Clansman HF and VHF radios. Our Special Event Call for this event is GB1WD. Listen out for us on 20 metres, around 14.273MHz and our favourite frequencies of 28.308MHz USB and 51.60MHz FM.

On site in the long barn will be displays of local arts and crafts together with sales of various artisan foods including cakes, preserves and fruit juices. As an added bonus Harvey's brewery will have supplies of their excellent Ales on draft, cans and bottles plus the usual gift sets.

West dean is a hidden gem and for those that have not yet visited this is a great opportunity to make the effort!
