Exercise Blue Ham 100

Exercise Blue Ham was founded a few years ago to encourage communications between Military Cadets and radio amateurs.

The most recent event “Exercise Blue Ham 100” being held over the weekend of 13-14th October from 0800-1600 UTC with operation on a number of spot frequencies in the 60m Band.

G8DXU/P assisted by M6EYO and M6ONX entered the event from Drewsteignton in the Dartmoor National Park. Operations were from a military Land Rover 110 Defender FFR using Clansman RT321 running 40W pep into a Resonant Dipole supported from a Racal 8m Mast. We also used an ICOM IC-7300 to scan the band for activity. After the first six successful contacts with the Clansman equipment we used the IC-7300 for the rest of the event with 80W output.

SARS members Bob G0UOI and Ian G7HFS also participated in the event from the Eastbourne area. Both G0UOI and G8DXU/P have gained sufficient contacts with cadet stations to gain certificates.
