SARS at West Dean Open Days

Members of SARS will be setting up special event station GB2WD at West Dean on the 9th & 10th of September to mark the English Heritage Open Days of this historic site.

This special occasion also marks the Canadian Occupation of West Dean during WWII. Tributes will be paid during special ceremonies on both Saturday and Sunday.

There will be some excellent displays of WWII radio equipment from very knowledgeable collectors with some rare examples of Spy radios and SOE equipment. John Elgar will also be showing German Enigma machines and similar crypto equipment.

We will also have the usual exhibit of a Military Land Rover Defender fitted with a compliment of working Clansman radios. Jon M0JAO will be displaying his beautifully restored Military Series One from 1949 with Station Radio C12.

It is planned to have demonstrations of a WWII Wireless Sets No.19 Canadian MkIII being used for speech communications with local stations.

Entry to West Dean at the Old Coach House is entirely free with free parking opposite the Church. Harvey’s Brewery will have samples of their products from their on-site tent. Other refreshments and Artisan foods, plus local crafts and produce will also be available in the historic Barns.
